Origami Paper Crafts for Kids to Create

Origami is an art which has different levels of understanding. It is one of the things which enters our lives in the very beginning of our learning process at Kindergarten but can stay long enough in our lives that we can be teaching this art to our grandchildren in the future. Here are some of the super easy origami crafts for kids that you can teach them.

Origami Fish

Use an origami or a normal paper and cut out a square piece from it. Fold it in half diagonally and create a neat crease from one corner to the other. Create another crease in the opposite direction and try to get your corners as pointy as they can.

Now fold is into half by aligning the edges and folding right from the diagonal intersection. Repeat the same for the other two edges. By now you will have 8 creases emerging from the centre to the edges and corners.

Take the two opposite points at the edges and bring them together, and fold the paper in such a way that all the four corners are aligned over each other in two pairs. Now you will have a triangle with two points of two angles of the triangle.

Fold one of the corners inside over a centimetre further than the centre line and then repeat the same for another corner on the adjacent side. Turn it around, and you will find a simple triangle fish. Draw the eyes and fins to complete your origami.

Origami Birds

Use an origami or a normal piece of paper and cut out a square piece from it. Fold this square piece diagonally and draw a neat crease. Open the fold and repeat the same for the other half as well.

Keep the paper folded diagonally and make another fold by taking one smaller corner of the triangle and aligning it to the top of the triangle along the centre line of the paper. Repeat the same for the other side as well.

Now fold the paper through the new diagonal half on the open side. Take the new smaller angle and bring it to the to angle of the triangle aligned to the centre crease. Note that the other angle has the rest of the three angles. Now open the last fold that you did and bring the top angle down to a half fold. Now use the other three open ends to free the folds and use another fold for the outside to inside. Now fold the other two corners outwards to make wings.

Fold the single corner side to both the sides and then fold it inwards to make the beak. Draw the eyes and other details to complete your bird origami.

Countdown to Christmas

I did not think I would have one of these ready for this week since I have spent this week laid up with asthma, sinusitis and a chest infection. Whoever said things come in threes was not wrong! I’m still on the antibiotics and will be for the next fortnight. I have taken amoxicillin more times than I can remember and it has never made me as sick as I have felt this time. I don’t know if it’s the prolonged period of time that I’ve been on them or what but yeah, it’s gross. Sometimes I think it’s better to actually be sick than feel it.At this size it seems to hold around 15 little sweets so I think it’d make the perfect little gift box for either emergency “oops, I forgot” presents or a stocking filler.

The paper is from Simple Stories (red polka dot) and American Crafts (gold chevron). I used some May Arts pompom trim and some cream and white Dovercraft twine with some Jingle bells. The wood veneer shape is also Dovecraft (I think). The red button at the centre of the bow is from Fancy Pants and the gems are from stash.

I decided to make this frame card.
It’s 5 x 4 and made from Papermill Direct White Linen cardstock. I made the frame with my Silhouette Portrait also cut out the treble clef and heart strings with it too.

I blinged up the frame using Wow Embossing powder in clear hologram sparkle and my heat tool. The papers, chipboard stickers and flair button are all from Crate Paper and I’ve used alpha stickers to make the sentiment.

Brains and Hearts

Brains and Hearts

It’s new challenge day at Charisma Cardz and the theme is “inspired by a movie”.

I’m not totally sure why I went in the direction I did with this card because it features zombies (well one, repeated numerous times) and zombies kind of freak me out. But this one is kind of cute – for an undead thing. it’s also a freebie, from whimsie doodles
My inspiration for the film is Warm Bodies. Because even zombies need a little love.

I digitally masked the stamp using photoshop and then printed it off onto Papermill Direct super smooth white card. I made the card base from the same card (although it hurt my heart to do so since it’s the only card I colour on now) but it made the whites match. All in the name of card making!

I coloured the stamps with Derwent Coloursoft pencils and added some Wink of Stella glitter on the hearts.

So there we have it. A cute/quirky Valentine’s Card

It’s Been Awhile…

It’s Been Awhile…

I’ve been ill 🙁 At the moment I am battling with stomach problems and have to wait until May for an endoscopy so I think the battle will be ongoing for a while. Pain is energy sapping and kind of makes it hard to be creative but I do have a card to share with you.

I made this for Papermill Direct using my favourite card that they make – white linen. I love this for clean and simple cards because it’s so pretty and textured that you really don’t need a lot of embellishments etc to make something beautiful.
I’ve made this white on white and it could be for Easter or Confirmation or Christenings.

The Christian crosses Silhouette cutting file from Lori Whilock is very versatile. I actually traced the cross with Silhouette Studio DE and then offset it slightly larger than the cross to make a base layer to give the cross a bit of stability for when I added it to the card on foam pads..
